This album is the second installment in Chen Yue's "悦韵无界" series. She has selected new compositions in recent years based on the concept of cultural geography, using the flute to express deep emotions and the xiao to convey homesickness. This seamlessly integrates traditional Chinese music with melodies that appeal to both refined and popular tastes, reflecting artistic innovation through relentless experimentation. Listening to the album feels like a journey through the world of the flute and xiao, overlooking the vast landscapes of China, experiencing the diverse regional cultures, and savoring the rich flavors of Chinese music.

The thirteen original tracks in the album come from all over China, united under the guidance of the flute and xiao, forming a dreamlike river connecting the heavens and earth. The natural attributes of the flute and xiao's timbre and techniques harmonize perfectly with the geographical and ecological features of the green mountains and clear waters, embodying the profound essence of Chinese culture and spirit through timeless music.

In traditional Chinese music, the flute and xiao have always been the leading representatives of wind instruments. The flute has a clear, distant, and refined sound, while the xiao's tone is introspective and earthly, both carrying a unique Oriental charm. This album, viewed from a panoramic perspective of China, uses the flute and xiao to illustrate the beauty of Chinese music, refreshing our understanding of Chinese musical cultural geography. It opens up a new blueprint for depicting the ecological beauty of China through the leading sounds of Chinese music.

Chen Yue (陈悦) was born April the 9th 1978, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. She began her playing the traditional Chinese bamboo flute (dizi) as a child, receiving her earliest instruction from her father. By the age of 12 she was already a well-known local performer and was sent to study privately with the master teacher, Zhao Songting. In 1993 she entered the Middle School of the China Conservatory of Music, where she was admitted as an undergraduate in 1996. The next year she was invited by China Central Television to participate in the national celebration of Hong Kong’s retrocession to China. In 2000 Chen graduated from the China Conservatory of Music and was the first woman to receive a Master’s degree in traditional Chinese flute performance. While at the China Conservatory, she studied with such modern flute masters as Zhang Weiliang and Jiang Guoji. Following graduation Chen began teaching flute at the China Conservatory.
