Deng Weibiao’s original New Age music album Journey to the West: Wukong is set to be released in 2020. The album offers a unique interpretation of the Journey to the West story from a fresh perspective. Unlike film or television scores, this album is a newly crafted New Age music project. It brings together a large-scale production team of over 100 people, including master performers of traditional Chinese instruments, an orchestra, choir, and an electric band, with a production cost reaching into the millions.

The music begins with the ancient instrument shakuhachi as an introduction, followed by the guqin narrating the story. The erhu and string orchestra then introduce the main theme, while the pipa and drums build towards a powerful climax. Performed by master musicians, the notes evoke the ancient sounds of Chinese instruments from the golden age of the Tang dynasty.
