This is a fully original ensemble album—an uncommon achievement for the guqin. The guqin is a unique instrument, its distinct timbre and centuries-old playing techniques particularly suited to expressing deep, introspective emotions. As a result, most guqin musicians prefer to perform pieces refined by time and tradition. However, the guqin is also a versatile instrument, capable of conveying the full range of human emotions—just as an electric guitar can evoke the vastness of ancient landscapes, so too can the guqin express both the joys and contemplations of the modern soul. Whether sorrow or delight, ancient or contemporary, its sound is shaped by the heart.

This album features tracks such as 太极 Tai Chi, 空 Emptiness, 无觉 The Unconscious, and 五行 Five Elements, where the guqin takes center stage, interwoven with electric and metallic sounds, as well as natural soundscapes, crafting a unique musical atmosphere. The guqin's tranquil, flowing melodies evoke the sensation of a clear spring coursing through the heart, or a mountain breeze whispering past the ear.

Taiji begins with ethereal natural sounds, leading into the guqin’s scattered notes and soft harmonics, introducing the theme. As the melody unfolds, a distant flute gradually emerges, its lingering and fluid tones contrasting with the guqin’s measured phrases—one continuous, one intermittent—mirroring the dual forces of Taiji, giving rise to an expansive sonic universe. Female vocals, harp, and keyboard instruments then join in succession, layering textures like mountain peaks enveloped in mist, painting an ink-wash landscape of soaring cranes and hidden valleys.

This is the realm where the formless Dao takes shape, where the greatest sound is nearly silent. The serene melodies bring a sense of inner peace and gentle breath, transcending the clamor of the world. In the rippling guqin notes, one can hear meanings beyond the strings.
